Psalm 57

C.M.

C.M. D Kingsfold (O Sing a Song of Bethlehem), or use Llangloffan (O God of Earth and Altar) for verses 1–6 and then change to Forest Green (I Sing the Mighty Power of God) for verses 7–11.

1Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me;
My soul takes refuge, God, in You—the shadow of Your wings,
Until disaster all is past; destruction passes by.
2To God who will fulfill His plan, I cry to God Most High.

3For He will send from heav’n above salvation unto me;
He will rebuke all those who do attack and trample me. Selah
For God sends forth His steadfast love and faithfulness to me;
His lovingkindness and His truth – with me they’ll always be.

4I lie among the rav’nous beasts, in midst of lions, Lord;
Amidst cruel men whose teeth are spears, whose tongues are like sharp swords.
5Above the heavens, O my God, may You exalted be;
Your glory over all the earth—let all the peoples see.

6They have prepared a net for me—for my steps to be caught;
My soul is bowed down low because a pit for me they sought.
They dug a pit before my path, but see what God has done!
They’ve fallen in the pit themselves, into it they have run.Selah

7My heart is steadfast, O my God, and I will sing Your praise!
8Awake, my soul, wake harp and lyre; I will awake the day!
9And I will give thanks unto You, O Lord, midst people all,
I will sing praises unto You among the nations all.

10Your lovingkindness does extend beyond the heav’ns above;
Your faithfulness unto the clouds that shower forth Your love.
11Above the heavens, O my God, may You exalted be;
Your glory over all the earth—let all the peoples see!
