1When the Lord brought back to Zion
captives from the exile land;
We were like those who were dreaming,
Those restored to health again.
2Then our mouths were filled with laughter,
Tongues with songs of joy again;
Then they said among the nations,
“God has done great things for them!”

3The Lord has done great things for us;
We are filled with joy and praise.
4Lord, restore our fortunes to us
like streams in the desert place.
5Those who sow with tears and weeping
will return with joyful song;
6Sowing seed will bring forth reaping—
Sheaves that to the Lord belong.
