Psalm 56

C.M.

C.M. D

1Be merciful to me, O God, for vile men pursue me;
All day they come with their attack, oppress me violently.

2They slander me as they pursue, all day they’ve cruelly lied;
For many are attacking me with arrogance and pride.

3When I’m afraid, I’ll trust in You, in God whose word I praise.
4In God I trust; I will not fear. What harm can mere men raise?

5But all day long they twist my words, they plot to bring me strife.
6They lurk and watch my steps, conspire to take away my life.

7On no account let them escape, in anger bring them down;
Because of wickedness, O God, cast them out and confound.

8For You see all my tossings and upon my plight You look;
Put my tears in Your bottle, God – Are they not in Your book?

9Then all my foes will be turned back, when for Your help I call;
For this I know – that God’s for me, and will not let me fall.

10In God, the Lord, whose word I praise, I’ll trust most faithfully.
11In God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

12I’m under vows to You, O God; I will present to You
the of-fer-ings that give You thanks—to my vows I’ll be true.

13For You delivered me from death, my feet from stumbling strife;
That I may walk before You, God, within the light of life.
