Psalm 71

L.M.

1In You, O Lord, I refuge take,
Do not let me be put to shame.
2 Come rescue and deliver me,
In righteousness of Your great name.

O turn Your ear to me and save,
3And be my rock of refuge, Lord—
The place where I can always go;
You are my rock and fortress sure.

4Deliver me, O Lord my God,
From hands of wicked, evil men.
5For You have been my sovereign Lord,
My hope since youth, and confidence.

6From birth I have relied on You;
You brought me from my mother’s womb.
7I’ll praise You—I’m a sign to all,
For You’re my strength when troubles loom.

8My mouth is ever filled with praise,
I tell Your splendor all day long.
9Don’t cast me off when I am gray,
Forsake me not when my strength’s gone.

10For enemies against me speak;
They wait and plot to kill me; then
11they say, “God has forsaken him;
Seize him, for none will rescue him.”

12So be not far from me, O God;
Come quickly, O my God; help me!
13May my accusers die in shame,
Disgrace and scorn their cov’ring be.

14But as for me, I always hope,
I’ll praise You ever with a song.
15My mouth will tell Your righteousness,
And Your salvation all day long.

16I will proclaim Your mighty acts,
O Sovereign Lord upon the throne.
I will proclaim Your righteousness—
The righteousness that’s Yours alone.

17Since youth, You’ve taught me, O my God,
I tell Your deeds unto this day.
18O God, do not forsake me now,
Not even when I’m old and gray.

For I’ll declare Your pow’r to all,
to generations yet to be.
19Your righteousness does reach the skies;
You’ve done great things—who is like Thee?

20Though You have sent me troubles and
made many bitter days appear;
You will restore my life again,
From depths You’ll bring me to come near.

21You will increase my honor and
bring comfort once again to me.
22I’ll praise You with the harp, O God,
For all Your faithfulness to me.

I’ll praise You with the lyre and sing,
O Holy One of Israel;
23My lips will shout for joy; I’ll bring
my songs of praise—to all I’ll tell.

24I, whom You have redeemed, will tell
Your righteous acts and deeds all day;
For all who wish to do me harm,
Shamed and confused, are put away.
